About Me

GLAD YOU'RE HERE

I'm Shana

Over my 30-year career in education, I’ve learned this truth again and again: expertise doesn’t happen by accident; it’s shaped by perspective, access, and the systems we design. My work began with two simple commitments: to leave students better than when they arrived, and to ensure they actually learned, not just complied, passed, or survived.

Science wasn’t always a place where I felt confident or welcome. It took time, courage, and a lot of unlearning before I trusted myself enough to return to school and learn how to teach it well. That personal journey, combined with what I witnessed in classrooms, especially the persistent lack of representation and access in STEM, pushed me to found See Different Consulting.

Initially, my focus was on supporting educators in creating learning environments where all students could build real expertise and see themselves as capable scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers. But over time, I began to notice something bigger.

The same challenges I saw in classrooms were showing up in engineering teams and tech organizations: uneven access to information, unclear expectations, hidden rules, inconsistent coaching, and systems that unintentionally gatekeep growth. These aren’t just education problems. They’re human-system problems.

Today, my work bridges STEM education and STEM industry. I partner with educators, school systems, and engineering and tech teams to design cultures where learning is explicit, communication is clear, and people can grow, contribute, and stay. Whether I’m working with teachers or technical professionals, the goal is the same: to build environments where expertise is developed on purpose and where more people can thrive.
