The Equity Builds Expertise™ Getting Started package offers a condensed overview session consisting of content from each of the three key modules in the Equity Builds Expertise™ framework for STEM teacher professional development. Within the three hours, participants consider mindshift in their own personal perspectives of STEM education and student learning, they learn transferable skills that increase content retention and expertise building in STEM classes, and they begin to identify classroom systems and practices which build student self-efficacy in STEM classes.

2 sessions on Engaging in Difficult Conversations with students, parents, and colleagues
- 1 virtual Practice Clinic
Using skills gleaned from Glen Singleton’s, Courageous Conversations about Race and Douglas Sone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen‘s, Difficult Conversations, participants learn strategies for navigating difficult conversations with students, parents, and colleagues on topics that often present challenges and impact school communities. Participants will have the opportunity to dissect the causes and impacts of difficult conversations, manage their own emotional consistency, and then engage in practice around potentially real scenarios for their school communities.
Strategy Session: VIRTUAL ONLY
- Pre-session survey and analysis to maximize time spent during strategy sessions
- 3 hour session to strategically plan solution to proposed problem statement
Can result in:
- Specific staff skill building professional development session creation
- STEM Unit audited for alignment to assessments, alignment to NGSS, transferable skills incorporation, equity lens used
- STEM lessons for a Unit audited and revised
Strategy Sessions are uniquely designed to support district and school leaders in tackling their most pressing DEI or STEM challenges/opportunities. This 1:1 or small group (4 people max) working session, takes clients through a process of defining, outlining, and planning next steps to be implemented immediately to provide forward movement on a challenge or opportunity of their choosing. The session has a pre-work assignment which must be completed at least two weeks prior to the scheduled session date

The Equity builds Expertise™ framework consists of 8 sessions which lead STEM teachers through a transformative experience which supports rethinking and engaging in STEM instruction which increases student retention of content and builds STEM expertise in all students. This offer not only provides templates and exemplars, but also supports identifying enrichment opportunities and revisions to current STEM curricula that will support building the STEM classrooms that support diverse learners.

The Planning for Expertise offer is inclusive of the Equity builds Expertise™ professional development sessions, however, this offer takes the learning from those sessions to the next level through its on-the-ground coaching for three days throughout the year. During the workshops staff develop a plan to be implemented and then this offer provides the coaching necessary to improve and revise those plans, based on observation of lessons being executed, for greater impact in STEM classrooms.
